The three accused, Lavlesh Tiwari, Arun Maurya and Sunny Singh, were sent back to Pratapgarh Jail on Sunday on a four-day remand.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) interrogated the trio on 15 April to collect all possible evidence related to the murder of Atiq and Ashraf.

Senior police officials associated with the investigation said that narco test is necessary to ascertain the motive of the crime, as they have been repeating that they shot Ateeq and Ashraf to become famous.

Sources said that the three accused have also not clearly stated who provided them the weapon or contract to kill and how they reached Prayagraj.

Police officials said that the three were interrogated separately by different teams and then brought together, but the officials have not found any concrete evidence.

The accused have also not given details about their training and procurement of arms and ammunition.

Sources said only Sunny Singh claimed that he had received the Jigana pistol from Jitendra Man Gogi, the gangster who was killed in the December 2021 Delhi courtroom attack.

Sunny told the investigators that he had met history-sheeter criminal Gogi, against whom 19 cases were registered, in May 2021 and obtained weapons from him.

He told the police that the trio reached Prayagraj on April 13 and stayed in a hotel near the railway station. They tried to carry out the first attack only on April 14, when Ateeq and Ashraf were taken to the CJM court for remand but failed due to security measures.

The trio later shot Ateeq and Ashraf on the night of April 15, when they were being taken to Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj for medical examination.

Three assailants disguised as journalists shot Ateeq and Ashraf in front of the camera in the presence of policemen.
