Raipur, April 19 (). Cultivation of medicinal plants is being specially promoted in Chhattisgarh. For this, the work of cultivation has also started in more than one thousand acres by selecting climate friendly species.
Medicinal plants are being cultivated in the state under various schemes run by Tribal, Local Health Traditions and Medicinal Plants Board. Presently, Ambikapur, Mainpat and Jashpur in the northern part of Chhattisgarh have been identified for cultivation of lavender under the pilot project and central region for cultivation of Rose Mary and Bastar for Monadra sritodora. By cultivating medicinal and aromatic species, farmers get double or even more profit than traditional farming.
Chief Executive Officer of the Medicinal Plants Board J.A.C. Rao informed that under the National Aroma Mission scheme, the work of cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants is going on in the state with the help of Chhattisgarh Tribal, Local Health Tradition and Plant Board. Lemongrass, CKP-25 (lemon grass) is being cultivated under this mission. Mainly the farmer groups and farmers are being given all kinds of help like technical information about farming, availability of planting material and making available distillation machines.
About 12 groups are working in this mission in the state, in which farming has been started at village-Churki, Deori, Khemda, Dongargaon, Mohda and other places under the supervision of District Mahasamund. After their harvest, the oil is being extracted through distillery. A distillery has also been installed there.
Not only this, agreements have been made with various institutions for the sale of products, so that farmers do not face any problem in selling their products.
Similarly, work has been started by the group under District Gariaband, in which a large number of farmers have received training. Jamarose CN-five species have also been tested by the Board in the last year along with lemongrass, which is currently being extended. Jamarose CN-5 species is being cultivated in about 25 acres and lemongrass is being cultivated in more than 300 acres. At present, IIIM Jammu and seven distilleries have been installed by the farmers themselves. Along with this, due to the operation of the said work under the mission, four to six thousand families will get economic benefits at the local level in the state.
