Chandigarh, May 25 (). Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said that he will not attend the ceremony on May 28, accusing the President of the country of insulting the office of the country by not inviting him to the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament.
In a statement here, the Chief Minister said that whenever a new session of Parliament is convened, every MP is invited by the President to attend the session. However, he said it was ironical that even the constitutional head of the government had not been invited to the opening ceremony of the new parliament.
Mann said that this is a mockery of the Constitution which is completely unfair and undesirable.
The Chief Minister said that the constitution was made by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who laid down the core values to ensure that democracy functions successfully. However, he said that under a deep conspiracy, the BJP-led NDA government is showing gross disrespect to the framers of the Constitution by indulging in such tantrums.
Mann said that the countrymen would never accept this and would teach a befitting lesson to the BJP in the days to come.
Mann said that he would have liked to attend the event if the President dedicated the new Parliament to the people of the country.
