Tourists will soon have the opportunity to explore popular attractions in the New Delhi area, such as Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya and Dilli Haat, aboard buses painted in purple and featuring images of notable landmarks like the Signature Bridge and Bharat Mandapam. Officials from the Delhi government’s tourism department announced plans to launch this service later this month or next. The initiative aims to offer evening tours starting from Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, taking visitors to other well-known sites including Bharat Mandapam, the War Memorial, the new Parliament complex, and Dilli Haat. The primary target audience includes international visitors and tourists in Delhi. The nine-meter electric buses have been procured from the DTC for this purpose.
As the museum closes at 6 pm, tours will commence from there and continue to additional locations. The buses will be easily identifiable due to their purple color and images of attractions like the Signature Bridge, India Gate, and Bharat Mandapam. The fare for the bus ride will be set at Rs 500 for adults and Rs 300 for children aged six to twelve. Each bus will have a guide on board to provide insights about the significance of the sites visited. During her budget speech, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced plans to develop a new tourist circuit that includes the War Memorial, Kartavya Path, the prime minister museum, and the new Parliament complex.
Additionally, the tourism department has considered reviving the ‘hop on-hop off’ (Ho-Ho) bus model, which was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. However, officials expressed concerns about the sustainability of such a model in a city like Delhi.
