Patna: The Congress faced a significant setback in the Bihar Assembly elections, capturing only six out of the 61 seats it contested, marking its second-lowest performance since 2010 when it won just four seats. The broader Mahagathbandhan alliance also encountered difficulties, failing to surpass the 40-seat threshold in a vital election the coalition had anticipated would enhance its prospects. A notable aspect of the defeat was that the Congress lost even in areas where it had conducted its prominent Jan Adhikar Yatras, indicating a more profound decline in organizational strength and voter trust. Reacting to the results, Rahul Gandhi took to X to express gratitude to the “millions of voters in Bihar” who backed the Mahagathbandhan.
“This result is truly astonishing,” he stated. “We could not win an election that was not fair from the beginning.” He also mentioned that the Congress and the larger INDIA bloc would soon conduct a thorough review of the election outcomes and formulate a “more effective strategy to safeguard democracy.”
