In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, two newborns were bitten by rats at a government hospital in the past two days, leading officials to initiate an investigation on Tuesday. The incidents took place at Maharaja Yashwantrao Chikitsalaya (MYH), one of the state’s largest government hospitals. Dr. Ashok Yadav, the hospital’s superintendent, reported to PTI that in the past 48 hours, a rat had bitten a baby’s fingers in the intensive care unit (ICU), while another infant sustained bites on the head and shoulder. Both infants had congenital deformities; one had been abandoned in Khargone district and brought to MYH for care. Dr.
Yadav mentioned that a committee has been established to look into the incidents, and hospital staff have been directed to maintain constant vigilance to prevent future occurrences.
