Bengaluru, April 12 (). On the one hand, after the release of the first list, the BJP is facing the rebellion of some senior leaders who did not get tickets, while the opposition Congress is ready to help the disgruntled leaders.
BJP MLC and former Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi has announced that he will resign. Former CM Jagadish Shettar has also said that he will contest the elections, come what may.
The rebel move by both the leaders is likely to cause huge losses to the party in North Karnataka and Kittar region. Both the leaders belong to the Lingayat community and have been with the BJP for decades.
On the other hand, the Congress is all set to induct the sitting MLAs of the BJP, who have not been given tickets by the ruling party. Sources said the party has already approached Savadi and is also in touch with other senior leaders.
Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday that he was hopeful that both the leaders would continue in the party. Responding to Savadi’s resignation threat, Bommai said he has spoken to him.
He said, I have asked not to take decisions in haste. I am sure that Laxman Savadi, who has an emotional connection with the BJP for a long time, has a good future in the party. The party has never abandoned him. The decision has been taken to fulfill the promise made by the party while coming to power in 2019.
Shettar is going to New Delhi after being denied ticket from Hubli-Dharwad constituency. The CM said, the high command will talk with them and everything will be fine.
CM Bommai clarified that he never wanted to join Congress and discussions in this regard are irrelevant. He said that after the announcement of the first list, the confidence of the party workers and people has increased. “We will get a majority and win 10-15 seats more than what is required to get a majority in the state,” he said.
