Patna: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) suffered a significant defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, leading to a considerable personal crisis within the Lalu Prasad Yadav family. Following the election results, Rohini Acharya, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter and Tejashwi Yadav’s sister, surprised many by announcing on social media her decision to exit politics. She also stated her intention to step back from the family due to the prevailing internal dynamics. This public declaration highlighted a serious internal conflict within the family. Rohini specifically named Sanjay Yadav and Rameez Nemat Khan, who are regarded as close associates of Tejashwi Yadav and integral members of his political team.
According to Rohini, the decisions made under their influence contributed to the party’s electoral defeat. Her comments have sparked discussions in Bihar’s political landscape, with several observers likening the discord within the Yadav family to a “Mahabharata.” Amidst this turmoil, focus has shifted to Rameez Nemat Khan. Born in 1986 in Balrampur district, Uttar Pradesh, Rameez attended DPS Mathura Road and later earned an MBA from Jamia Millia Islamia. Before his political career, he played professional cricket, participating in 30 first-class matches for the Jharkhand team as a right-handed batsman. His friendship with Tejashwi Yadav during his cricketing days facilitated his entry into the RJD.
Rameez joined the party in 2016, initially managing backstage operations in the Deputy Chief Minister’s office while Tejashwi was in office. He gradually became a significant figure in Tejashwi’s political framework, assisting with his schedule, campaign meetings, and election strategies. Currently, Rameez collaborates closely with strategist Sanjay Yadav, both viewed as key advisors to Tejashwi. However, the recent conflict has created serious divisions within the family. Tej Pratap Yadav previously criticized Sanjay Yadav by labeling him “Jaychand,” a term associated with betrayal in Indian lore. With Rohini publicly attributing blame to Sanjay Yadav and Rameez Nemat Khan for her departure, the controversy has escalated.
Many perceive this crisis as not merely political but profoundly personal, raising questions about how the RJD will navigate this deepening rift within its most influential family.
