Patna: The aftermath of the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) electoral defeat in Bihar has seemingly left former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav increasingly detached from his family. Lalu Prasad’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, has asserted that she has the backing of her parents, Lalu and Rabri Yadav, as well as her sisters, while she has cut off relations with her brother. Speaking to reporters in Delhi on Sunday evening, Rohini stated, “Go ask Tejashwi, Sanjay Yadav, Rachel Yadav, and Rameez who instigated all this. My father is with me. Yesterday, my parents were crying, and my sisters were crying for me.
God blessed me with such parents; they have always supported me.” Rohini criticized her brother and his close associates, contending that familial sacrifices should not fall exclusively on daughters. “Any home with a brother should also contribute to the family. Why should only daughters make sacrifices? When your daughter is asked questions, you say, ‘Go to your in-laws’ house, you’re married,’” she remarked. The tensions became public after Rohini posted on social media on Saturday, announcing her exit from politics and her decision to break family ties. She accused RJD MPs Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, close aides of Tejashwi, of influencing her choice. She also alleged mistreatment at her mother Rabri’s home and questioned her kidney donation to her father.
Rohini arrived at Patna airport on Saturday evening in tears after leaving her mother’s residence. The following day, her three sisters—Ragini, Rajlaxmi, and Chanda Yadav—departed Patna for Delhi with their children. The family discord follows previous divisions, as Rohini’s elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, had already distanced himself from the family after establishing the Janshakti Janata Dal. He contested the recent elections unsuccessfully and has since offered moral support to the NDA, reportedly inviting Rohini to join his party.
