Patna: The newly appointed home minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, has delivered a stern warning to criminal organizations in the state, stating that anyone engaged in organized crime “will have to leave Bihar.” His comments followed a police encounter in Begusarai that resulted in an injury to a notorious criminal. Speaking to the press, Choudhary emphasized that the new NDA government would implement “strict and decisive action” to achieve what he termed su-shaasan (good governance). “Bihar is no haven for criminals. They do not belong here – and they will be expelled,” he declared, highlighting that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership will play a crucial role in maintaining law and order.
Responding to inquiries about whether Bihar would adopt a hardline policing approach similar to Uttar Pradesh’s, the deputy chief minister maintained that the state already possesses a robust enforcement framework. “Bihar has consistently upheld law and order. Criminals must realize they cannot thrive here,” he stated. In just 48 hours, two encounters have intensified the pressure on criminal networks. The recent operation occurred between Malhipur and Shaligrami villages in Begusarai, where a joint task force of Bihar Police and the STF faced gunfire during a raid. Officers returned fire, injuring a wanted criminal who is currently hospitalized. Just two days prior, another suspect was shot and injured during an encounter in the Teghra area.
Choudhary indicated that such operations would escalate if criminal activities persist. Bihar Police disclosed on X that a substantial cache of weapons and illegal items was confiscated during the Begusarai raid, including: 7 country-made pistols, 1 semi-finished pistol, 7 magazines, ₹3.7 lakh in cash, 970 bottles of illegal cough syrup, and tools for firearm manufacturing. Authorities indicated that more raids are forthcoming as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal weapon manufacturers and organized crime groups. Choudhary reaffirmed the government’s clear objective: “No criminal will be spared. Under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, good governance will be upheld.”
