Samsung Launches DigiArivu to Enhance STEM Education in Tamil Nadu

Samsung, India’s leading consumer electronics brand, together with the United Nations Global Compact Network India (UN GCNI), has initiated the ‘DigiArivu – Empowering Students Through Tech’ education programme to enhance digital and STEM education in Tamil Nadu. This initiative aims to improve school infrastructure, facilitate STEM and digital learning, train educators, and promote comprehensive student development across 10 government schools in Kancheepuram and Ranipet districts, benefiting over 3,000 students. DigiArivu employs a multi-layered, community-focused approach to transform the educational landscape in tier-2 and tier-3 districts. The programme is based on UN GCNI’s research involving state government-run schools, feedback from Samsung employees at the Sriperumbudur manufacturing facility, and input from local community members to ensure that the interventions meet actual needs.

Key priorities include enhancing the existing learning environment in schools using Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) designs, along with providing resources to promote digital learning among students. The initiative will also incorporate activity-based learning focused on STEM topics and conduct teacher training sessions. Samsung plans to supply sports kits and establish libraries stocked with books in Tamil, English, and competitive examination materials. Furthermore, it will offer career guidance for Class 12 students, host speaker series featuring education experts, and organize health awareness camps for students. The programme will also involve celebrating significant events and dates at schools in collaboration with community members. The launch event at The Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram was attended by Thiru Dr.

Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the Honourable Minister for School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, along with District Collectors from Kancheepuram and Ranipet, reaffirming the state’s dedication to enhancing STEM education and promoting digital inclusion. SH Yoon, President of Samsung Chennai Plant, stated, “Samsung believes that technology becomes truly effective when it broadens access, opportunities, and confidence for youth everywhere. Through DigiArivu, we are fostering a digitally-enabled learning environment that equips students in Tamil Nadu with future-ready skills, nurtures their curiosity, and enables their full participation in India’s rapidly advancing digital economy. Our aim is not only to introduce technology but to empower teachers, uplift communities, and ensure that every child, regardless of their background, can access quality digital education.

DigiArivu represents a significant step in our ongoing commitment to ‘Powering Digital India’ and cultivating India’s future talent pipeline.” Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director of UN GCNI, added, “DigiArivu exemplifies the meaningful outcomes that can be achieved when business and society collaborate with a shared purpose. We are proud to partner with Samsung in promoting STEM learning and digital access for children in Tamil Nadu’s government schools. This initiative truly reflects the essence of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — ensuring that no child is excluded from India’s digital future.” In addition to DigiArivu, Samsung is enhancing youth skills in Tamil Nadu through the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) programme.

This year, Samsung is training 5,000 students in Tamil Nadu in high-demand future technology fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Big Data, and Coding & Programming, in collaboration with leading training and skilling organizations to provide students with industry-relevant technical skills and improve their employability. Through SIC, Samsung is preparing young learners in the state for careers in a rapidly evolving tech economy.
