In a significant advancement in mobile technology, Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Trifold, its first triple-folding smartphone. This groundbreaking device was revealed at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in South Korea, marking a notable addition to Samsung’s foldable range. According to reports from the Korean outlet Chosun, two variants of the Galaxy Z Trifold were showcased at the event — one in a folded state and another fully opened. When unfolded, the device expands into a tablet-like screen, delivering a spacious display experience akin to that of a small tablet. The inner display is speculated to reach up to 10 inches and includes a punch-hole camera positioned on the right side.
When folded, the Galaxy Z Trifold resembles a more conventional smartphone similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, featuring a 6.5-inch outer display that also houses a punch-hole selfie camera, meeting daily smartphone requirements without the need to unfold the device. Tipster Ice Universe recently shared images of the Z Trifold on X (formerly Twitter), indicating that the inner bezels might be slightly thicker than those of Samsung’s earlier foldables. Nonetheless, the design promises enhanced durability and a smoother folding mechanism. Unlike Huawei’s outward-folding Mate XTs, Samsung’s model features inward-folding panels, with both the left and right sides folding over the central section.
This distinctive design serves to protect the sensitive inner display from external factors, ensuring greater longevity and resistance to wear and tear. To meet the substantial power demands of this intricate structure, Samsung is reportedly adopting a three-part battery design, distributing power cells across the various foldable segments of the device. This approach not only optimizes battery capacity but also maintains balanced weight distribution throughout the phone. Photography enthusiasts are likely to appreciate the expected triple rear camera setup of the Galaxy Z Trifold, led by a 200-megapixel primary sensor, along with an ultra-wide and a telephoto lens, guaranteeing superior imaging capabilities.
Under the hood, the Trifold is anticipated to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, ensuring flagship-level performance for multitasking, gaming, and creative tasks on its large screen. Samsung is believed to be preparing to launch the Galaxy Z Trifold later this year in select markets, including South Korea and China, though there has been no official announcement regarding its release in India. In terms of pricing, this innovative device is projected to have a premium price tag of around $3,000 (approximately ₹2,64,000). For comparison, Huawei’s Mate XTs, a competing trifold device, starts at 17,999 yuan (around ₹2,22,000).
