Samsung's Project Moohan XR Headset Promises Superior 4K Display

Samsung is preparing to launch its long-awaited headset, Project Moohan, in the extended reality (XR) market before the end of 2025. This device aims to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro, potentially exceeding it in display clarity and design sophistication. According to a report from Android Headlines, the upcoming XR headset will feature a high-resolution 4K micro-OLED display, rumored to have a pixel density exceeding 4,000 pixels per inch (ppi), which would make it sharper than the Vision Pro’s 3,391 ppi. However, another report from TheElec suggests the pixel density might be around 3,800 ppi. Regardless, these metrics indicate Samsung’s goal to surpass Apple in visual quality, a key factor in immersive XR experiences.

Leaked images show Project Moohan with a stylish design, featuring dual lenses encased in soft fabric for comfort during prolonged use. It is also expected to come with an external battery pack, similar to the Vision Pro, to alleviate head weight. Reports indicate the headset will weigh approximately 595 grams, making it lighter than many existing models. Internally, Project Moohan will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 processor, with software co-developed by Google, incorporating Samsung’s OneUI for a more integrated user experience. The XR headset is anticipated to include advanced sensors for eye tracking and gesture control, enhancing navigation intuitiveness.

Additionally, voice control functionality is rumored to be included, aligning with Samsung’s push for seamless interaction across its devices. Although the launch was originally planned for September, it has been postponed to October, likely for product refinement. While no official announcement has been made yet, speculation suggests a formal reveal is expected by year-end. Pricing is projected to be competitive, with estimates ranging from 2.5 million to 4 million Korean Won (approximately ₹1.58 lakh to ₹2.52 lakh), compared to the Vision Pro’s price of around 4.86 million Korean Won (about ₹3.07 lakh). With its advanced display, robust chipset, and attractive pricing, Project Moohan could position Samsung as a formidable player in the premium XR market.

As excitement grows, attention now turns to the impending official announcement from the tech giant.
