New Delhi, April 22 (). The Delhi Police on Saturday said that it has neither arrested nor detained former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik.
Although a total of 24 people, including some farmer leaders from Haryana, were detained, they were released after a few hours, an official said.
Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagarpreet Hooda said that at around 10 am on Saturday, the local police received information that a tent had been set up at MCD Park under RK Puram police station, after which the local SHO reached the spot with a police team.
Hooda said, the police found that a khap meeting was organized there under the leadership of Malik. Police told the organizers that since it is a public park in a residential area, they should organize such a gathering at Jantar Mantar.
They (organisers) did not take permission nor did they inform the local police about the gathering, the official said. The police tried to persuade the organizers to vacate the park, but they refused to leave. After this 24 people were detained and sent to Jafarpur Kalan police station.
Meanwhile, Malik came to the park and was also briefed about the protocol, the official said. After this Malik voluntarily along with his 20 supporters went to R.K. Puram police station.
Malik stayed in the police station for about two hours.
Around 3 pm, 24 of his supporters who were detained were released from Jafarpur Kalan police station, the official said.
Delhi Police had earlier tweeted, misinformation is being spread on social media regarding the detention of Satya Pal Malik. He himself along with his supporters R.K. Puram reached the police station. He was informed that he was free to leave of his own free will.
