Shreyas Iyer has stepped down from his role as captain of India A just prior to the second match against Australia A. Dhruv Jurel will take over as the new captain. Iyer’s resignation is due to personal reasons, and he has returned to Mumbai, meaning he will miss the upcoming match. However, he may participate in the series against the West Indies later. In the first match, Iyer scored 8 and 13 runs and faced a controversial decision from the umpire regarding Australia A’s spinner Corey Rocchiccioli. Despite his low scores, India A performed well, accumulating 531 runs after Australia posted 532. Iyer was absent during India’s tour of England and the Asia Cup 2025 T20Is.
He remains a key player in ODIs, having contributed to India’s Champions Trophy victory last year, and is working towards securing a consistent spot in the Test and T20I teams.
