Indian Test team captain Shubman Gill sustained a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test and was immediately taken to the hospital for medical evaluations. After being kept under observation, he was discharged the following day with a recommendation for rest. Gill arrived in Guwahati on November 19, 2025, with hopes of playing in the second Test. However, after a subsequent medical assessment, it was determined that he was not fully recovered and therefore will not participate in the match. He is set to travel to Mumbai for additional tests and treatment, as doctors want to ensure his complete recovery before he returns to the field.
In Gill’s absence, Rishabh Pant will take over as captain for the second Test, managing all on-field decisions.
