Patna, March 29 (). A police sub-inspector (SI) in Bihar’s Jehanabad has been arrested for allegedly shooting and seriously injuring a bike-borne youth during vehicle checking. The police gave this information on Wednesday.
Jehanabad Superintendent of Police Deepak Ranjan said the accused, SI Chandrahas Kumar, has been booked for attempt to murder, while the SHO concerned has been sent to police lines.
Chandrahas Kumar, posted at Okri police post, was conducting a vehicle checking operation in Anantapur village, when he shot Sudhir Yadav, who was returning from Jehanabad city at around 10 am on Tuesday, when he did not stop the bike.
Sudhir Yadav was not wearing a helmet or did not have a driving license. So he got scared seeing police checking at Anantapur village and turned his bike to escape. Due to which the angry SI shot Yadav in the back. Yadav is undergoing treatment at the hospital, where his condition remains critical.
Taking the matter seriously after the incident, SP immediately sent Ghosi SDOP Ashok Kumar Pandey for investigation. Based on their report, the SP directed the officers to arrest the SI for unnecessarily firing at an innocent person and putting his life at risk. The SI has been arrested by the police.
