Spotify has introduced a revamped version of its Apple TV app, offering a “faster, smarter, more visual experience.” The company stated that the tvOS app has been completely rebuilt, now featuring several mobile-like functionalities, such as lyrics display, queue management, and smooth playback. The most notable enhancements include the introduction of video podcasts and music videos, representing a significant upgrade for Apple TV users. The updated app is available on Apple’s App Store, with automatic updates expected to roll out by mid-November. Some users received early access to the new interface, designed to address long-standing issues with the previous version, including cumbersome navigation and missing features found on platforms like Google TV.
While the music video feature has not yet launched in the US or Canada, it is already available in 97 international markets. Spotify Premium subscribers in those regions can easily access videos via the new “switch to video” option whenever an official music video is included in Spotify’s catalogue. Video podcasts will operate similarly in the app, allowing users to adjust playback speed for a more engaging experience. This update follows Spotify’s announcement of a new collaboration between its podcast studio, Netflix, and The Ringer, which will introduce 16 exclusive video podcast series to the US in 2026, including The Bill Simmons Podcast and shows focused on the NFL, NBA, Fantasy Football, and Formula 1.
Beyond visual enhancements, the new Spotify tvOS app incorporates modern mobile features like real-time lyrics, queue management, and AI-driven recommendations through Spotify DJ. Users can also control playback directly from their smartphones or tablets via Spotify Connect, ensuring a seamless cross-device experience. With this redesign, Spotify aims to establish a more cohesive and intuitive entertainment hub for Apple TV users, merging music, podcasts, and videos into a unified experience.
