New Zealand, 11 December 2025 | Spotify is rolling out a new feature called Prompted Playlists, which aims to give listeners enhanced control over their music recommendations. This AI-driven tool allows users to create personalized playlists simply by typing what they wish to hear, and it is currently in beta testing.
With this innovative feature, Spotify claims users can “curate your next Discover Weekly, exactly the way you want it.” Users can enter detailed prompts, and Spotify’s AI will generate a playlist based on these instructions while considering individual listening habits. This marks a significant step in music personalization.
One notable aspect of Prompted Playlists is the ability to refresh these playlists automatically using the same prompt. This effectively allows users to create their own version of Discover Weekly with more control than ever before. While previous updates permitted some genre prioritization, directing the algorithm beyond that was not possible until now.
Additionally, Prompted Playlists align with Spotify’s broader mission to empower listeners. Earlier this year, the platform enhanced its AI DJ feature to accept voice prompts, making interactions more intuitive. This shift reflects a growing trend across tech platforms, as seen with Instagram’s recent introduction of a tool that allows users to inform its algorithm about their interests.
Through Prompted Playlists, Spotify is signaling a move towards more personalized and user-led music discovery, ensuring that listeners have greater control over their musical experience.
