Fast bowler Mitchell Starc has made his return to the Australian ODI squad for the upcoming three-match home series against India, which begins on October 19. Mitchell Marsh will lead the team as captain while Pat Cummins is recovering from a back injury. Starc, who recently retired from T20 internationals, missed the ODI series against South Africa in August after his involvement in the West Indies Test tour. His workload is being carefully managed in anticipation of the Ashes, as he last played an ODI in November 2024 in Adelaide against Pakistan.
Along with uncapped batter Matthew Renshaw, Matt Short, and Mitch Owen, Starc is one of four new additions to Australia’s 15-member ODI squad, which previously lost to the Proteas 1-2. Short also missed the last series due to a side strain, and Owen was sidelined with a concussion during the T20I matches against South Africa. Marsh will continue as the ODI captain while Cummins focuses on his recovery from lumbar bone stress in preparation for the Ashes.
