The Madhya Pradesh government has prohibited the sale of Coldrif syrup after 12 children died due to suspected kidney infections in Chhindwara district since September 7. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed that the deaths were immensely tragic and confirmed that the syrup’s sale is banned throughout Madhya Pradesh, alongside other products from the syrup’s manufacturer. Similarly, both Tamil Nadu and Kerala have also banned Coldrif syrup, mandating its withdrawal from the market. The prohibition in Tamil Nadu took effect on October 1, as stated by an official from the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department. The syrup was produced at a facility in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

In light of these incidents, the Madhya Pradesh government asked Tamil Nadu to conduct an investigation. The report from this investigation was received earlier today, prompting immediate action. Yadav noted that measures were being taken at the local level, and a state-level team has been formed to further investigate. He assured that those responsible would face consequences. The death toll in Madhya Pradesh has reached nine, while reports indicate that three infants died in Rajasthan.
