Stock Market Update: Sensex Changes, Nifty Nears 24,500 with Jio Fin and ITC Gains

In the latest stock market developments, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) was observed trading with a slight upward trend, reaching an intraday peak of Rs 1,395 on the BSE. Attention is drawn to the Nifty50 updates, particularly due to the annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for 2 pm, where over 44 lakh shareholders are anticipating crucial announcements regarding Jio Financial, artificial intelligence initiatives, energy projects, and digital expansion. Meanwhile, Adani Power Ltd., recognized as India’s largest privately owned thermal power firm, has announced that it secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) to supply electricity for a duration of 25 years.

Despite an increase in local institutional purchases during Thursday’s market session, negative sentiment remains prevalent, as reflected in the Sensex performance. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) purchased shares worth Rs 6,920 crore, significantly outweighing Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) sales amounting to Rs 3,856 crore. Nevertheless, the Nifty experienced a decline of 221 points. Analysts attribute this downturn to aggressive short positions held by FIIs, driven by concerns over Trump’s potential 50 percent trade war and the inflated valuation of Indian stocks. In banking news, Yes Bank is poised for a considerable boost as the Japanese firm Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp (SMBC) plans to invest a total of Rs 16,000 crore through a mix of debt and equity.

This deal, which involves acquiring a 20% stake from current shareholders (pending regulatory approval), significantly impacts the Sensex’s financial balance. Conversely, asset management firms are among the top gainers, bolstered by record inflows and positive expectations regarding regulatory changes. However, experts caution that fierce competition and high valuations may restrict future growth. With more entrants emerging in the market and potential IPOs on the horizon, the asset management company (AMC) sector could face increased competition, raising the risk of a short-term downturn.
