Supreme Court Calls All States on Stray Dog Compliance Except Two

The Supreme Court on Monday summoned the Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories, excluding West Bengal and Telangana, for failing to submit compliance affidavits in the ongoing stray dogs case. This hearing follows prior court directives that required authorities to capture, sterilize, and vaccinate stray dogs before releasing them. The court noted that only West Bengal, Telangana, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi have adhered to these instructions. The remaining states have been ordered to appear before the court on November 3 to explain their lack of compliance. Justice Vikram Nath expressed disappointment over the inaction from the states despite having two months to respond.

He highlighted that the rising number of dog bite incidents is damaging India’s international reputation. “Two months’ time was given, yet no action. Such incidents keep happening, and our country is being shown down abroad. We read these reports too,” the judge remarked, as reported. Further details are pending regarding the court’s next actions.
