Chennai, April 29 (). AIADMK general secretary and former chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) will soon convene a meeting of mid-level leaders of the party and convince them to continue with the alliance with the BJP.
According to AIADMK sources, the party leader is also set to talk to workers about the decision to continue with the alliance with the BJP, which he announced after meeting BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in New Delhi.
Notably, Tamil Nadu BJP president K.K. Relations between the AIADMK and the BJP hit an all-time low after Annamalai ranted against the AIADMK and even openly stated that he preferred to fight it alone in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
However, the BJP’s national leadership knows that without any Dravidian chief, the party will turn into a non-entity in Tamil Nadu and would be better off piggybacking on either of the Dravidian majors, Ooty or Aksaut.
While the national leadership of the BJP was keen to continue with the alliance with the AIADMK. AIADMK workers and mid-level leaders were not enthusiastic about continuing the alliance with the saffron party.
According to AIADMK’s response, breaking ties with the saffron party from the grassroots level would be great for the party.
The party’s lower-level functionaries are of the opinion that if the AIADMK breaks ties with the BJP, Dalit organisations, Muslim organizations and parties like the MDMK, DMDK and even Seeman’s NTK will join hands with it.
According to an inhouse survey conducted by it, the AIADMK has assessed that the party can win anywhere between 6 to 7 seats if it breaks ties with the BJP. According to AIADMK insiders, the survey will give the party 10 to 12 seats even as many Muslim organizations that have turned their backs on the AIADMK. Due to the alliance with the BJP, they will be back in their fold.
However, AIADMK sources told that the EPS decided to continue with the alliance with the BJP citing long-term political gains.
With the BJP firmly in the saddle at the Center and the NDA likely to return to power in the 2024 elections, the AIADMK does not want to be on the losing side and be part of a winning coalition even if it loses a few seats in the bargain. She goes. There is a national level requirement for EPS.
Amid preparations for the general elections, the AIADMK is busy preparing its workers for the polls and wants to enthuse its workers as to why it is continuing with the alliance with the BJP.
It is learned that the EPS will directly convene a meeting of the lower and middle level functionaries of the party in the coming days.
