In a significant move to protect homebuyers and promote transparency in property advertising, the Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TGRERA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). This collaboration aims to monitor and reduce misleading real estate advertisements, especially on digital platforms, while boosting consumer trust in the state’s flourishing housing market. TGRERA and ASCI will work together to identify, monitor, and take action against non-compliant or deceptive real estate ads. ASCI will utilize its technology-driven systems to proactively identify questionable advertisements and forward them to TGRERA for regulatory measures, ensuring compliance with the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. Dr. N.
Satyanarayana, Chairman of TGRERA, stated, “We are committed to protecting the rights and interests of homebuyers in Telangana. This MoU with ASCI will help us quickly identify non-compliant ads and take necessary actions. Transparent and honest advertising is crucial for maintaining consumer trust in the housing sector, and this partnership is a practical, technology-supported defense for homebuyers.” ASCI, which has previously collaborated with various regulators, offers expertise in digital advertising monitoring and compliance tracking. Earlier this year, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) signed a similar MoU with ASCI, leading to the identification and escalation of numerous misleading property ads for action under RERA provisions. “ASCI is pleased to collaborate with TGRERA,” said Manisha Kapoor, CEO of ASCI.
“Our past partnerships with regulators have demonstrated that joint efforts between government bodies and ASCI yield more effective consumer protection results. We believe this partnership will significantly enhance protections for homebuyers in Telangana.” Through this agreement, TGRERA seeks to reduce consumer harm, improve accountability among builders and agents, and ensure accurate communication of project details. Misleading property advertisements, which often lead to confusion and financial losses for buyers, will now undergo immediate regulatory scrutiny. By partnering with ASCI, TGRERA not only enhances oversight of real estate advertising but also strengthens its commitment to promoting fairness, transparency, and trust in the state’s real estate sector.
Ultimately, this alliance establishes a new standard for responsible real estate advertising in India, emphasizing every homebuyer’s right to accurate information. The MoU was signed in the presence of TGRERA officials, including Dr. N. Satyanarayana, J. Laxmi Narayana, K. Srinivasa Rao, and senior officials, alongside ASCI representatives Manisha Kapoor and Dr. Saheli Sinha.
