In the early hours of Thursday, the owner of Sresan Pharma, based in Tamil Nadu, was arrested by Madhya Pradesh police with assistance from Chennai police in relation to an adulterated cough syrup case, according to a police official. Both Madhya Pradesh and Chennai police teams conducted a search to locate and apprehend Ranganathan, the pharma owner. His company’s cough syrup, ‘Coldrif,’ is linked to the deaths of children across several states. A senior police official stated that he was detained during a midnight operation and subsequently taken to the Sunguvarchatram police station for questioning. After securing a transit permit, Madhya Pradesh police will transport him to their state for a thorough investigation.
The Central Drug Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has notified the World Health Organization (WHO) that three cough syrups, including Coldrif, RespifreshTR, and ReLife, have been recalled, and production has been halted.
