The national carrier has finalized a deal with Boeing to add 75 wide-body 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft to its fleet from 2029 to 2034, comprising 50 firm orders and 25 options. Turkish Airlines is also in talks with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace for engine procurement. As part of this strategic acquisition, discussions with Boeing concerning a total of 150 aircraft, including 100 firm and 50 option orders for the 737-8/10 MAX models, have been concluded. Orders for the 737-8/10 MAX aircraft will proceed, pending successful negotiations with engine manufacturer CFM International. This agreement highlights the strategic alliance between Türkiye and the United States, as well as the enduring partnership between Turkish Airlines and Boeing.
It demonstrates the airline’s commitment to maintaining a leadership position in the industry and improving operational efficiency. In line with its “Vision 2033,” which marks its centennial, Turkish Airlines aims to grow its fleet to over 800 aircraft, increasing the share of next-generation models to 90% by 2033 and 100% by 2035. This expansion will bolster operational efficiency and sustain an average annual growth rate of 6%. Turkish Airlines Chairman Prof. Ahmet Bolat remarked that this significant agreement signifies not just fleet growth but also reflects their industry leadership and commitment to innovation and operational excellence. He added that the new Boeing aircraft will enhance operational capabilities and support the airline’s vision of expanding to 800 aircraft.
Furthermore, these aircraft will improve connectivity and increase long-haul destinations, attracting more visitors to experience Türkiye’s unique culture and natural beauty, thus strengthening the tourism sector. With its unmatched service and extensive flight network, Turkish Airlines aims to set a global standard for efficiency and environmental responsibility. Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope expressed honor at Turkish Airlines’ choice of the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX for future growth, emphasizing their long-standing partnership with Türkiye’s aviation industry. Currently, Turkish Airlines operates over 200 Boeing aircraft, including the 787-9, 777, 737 MAX, Next-Generation 737, and 777 Freighters.
The new order will introduce the 787-10, the largest member of the 787 family, which will lower operating costs due to its 25% fuel efficiency advantage and boost passenger and cargo capacity, particularly for high-demand routes across the United States, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The expansion of the 787 Dreamliner fleet will enhance long-haul operations, while the 737 MAX will improve efficiency and flexibility for short- and medium-haul routes. Their advanced cargo capacity will also enhance Istanbul’s strategic role in passenger and cargo transport. Turkish Airlines continues to lead the aviation sector, consistently providing exceptional service and memorable experiences to its passengers. This acquisition reinforces its commitment to offering the most comfortable travel options.
