Amritsar. Under its new immigration policy, the United States deported 104 illegal Indian immigrants on Wednesday. A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft transported them to the Air Force base in Amritsar. Among the deported individuals, 30 are from Punjab, while 33 each belong to Haryana and Gujarat.
Security Check & Handover to Police at Amritsar Airport
Upon arrival, security officials at Amritsar Airport conducted verification of all the deportees. After immigration and customs clearance, they were handed over to Punjab Police.
U.S. Plans to Deport 205 Indians
The U.S. government has identified a total of 205 Indian immigrants for deportation, out of which a list of 186 individuals has been released. However, details regarding the remaining individuals, including their location and deportation schedule, remain unclear.
19,000 Indians to Face Deportation
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), nearly 19,000 illegal Indian immigrants are set to be deported. This action comes just days before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to the U.S. on February 12. Modi is expected to hold discussions with President Donald Trump on February 13.
First-Ever Deportation Using Military Aircraft
The U.S. military’s C-17 Globemaster aircraft departed from San Antonio, Texas, at 3 AM IST on February 4. This marks the first time the U.S. has used a military aircraft to deport illegal immigrants.
$720,000 Spent on the Deportation Flight
President Trump has taken a tough stance on illegal immigration. The cost of operating the Globemaster for this deportation was approximately ₹6 crore ($720,000), which is six times higher than a regular chartered flight.
Families & Children Among the Deported, Arrangements for Travel Home
Among the 104 deportees, some families and children aged 8–10 were also present. Security officials stated that people from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh will be sent home via road, while those from Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh may be transported by flight.
