Lucknow, 25 April (). CCTV cameras installed in jails of Uttar Pradesh have been equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) system.
This has been done to crack down on mafias and criminals lodged in various jails of the state.
A spokesman of the state government said, dual view scanner baggage, full human body worn scanner, contactless glasses for meeting rooms and other devices equipped with new technology have been installed in five high security jails of the state.
He said the proposal to install state-of-the-art gadgets in prisons was sent to the state government after a high-level meeting headed by the Chief Minister, in which he directed the officials to plug the loopholes in the security of the prisons.
He said, the state government has allocated funds to the Jail Administration and Reforms Department in the annual budget 2023-24.
So far, 145 video conferencing halls have been set up, including 72 jails and 73 district courts, to send 100 per cent remand undertrials lodged in state jails through video conferencing.
Five dual view scanner baggage, five full human body worn scanners, 130 contactless glasses for meeting rooms, 5 panic alarm systems, 15 Night Vision Binoculars and 5 Light Protection System ESE unit has been installed.
CCTV surveillance units are being set up in a phased manner to enhance the security of jails.
About 30 cameras have been installed in each jail.
The spokesman said that at present more than 3600 CCTV cameras have been installed in all the jails of the state. In 30 jails, the work of increasing the number of cameras, their restoration and arrangement of servers including storage has been completed.
A command center has been set up at the headquarters for high-level monitoring, in which live feed of cameras installed in jails is being received in the video wall.
