Lucknow, September 16: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to finish the repair and reconstruction of all roads damaged during the monsoon—highways, expressways, rural, and urban—prior to Durga Puja, Dussehra, Deepawali, and Chhath to facilitate smooth public travel. During a review of the statewide road repair and pothole elimination campaign on Tuesday, the Chief Minister urged departments to expedite their efforts. Uttar Pradesh has 678,301 roads totaling 432,000 km, with 44,196 km designated for achieving pothole-free status. Currently, 21.67% progress has been made. The CM called on underperforming departments to enhance their performance while praising the PWD for achieving 84.82% progress in road renovation covering 31,514 km.
The Chief Minister assessed the updated status of road repairs and pothole eradication with various departments, including NHAI, Mandi Parishad, PWD, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Urban Development, Irrigation, and Sugarcane & Sugar Development. He emphasized the need for accelerated progress in road repairs under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana. Officials indicated that 2,750 km of roads have been earmarked for special repairs. The Rural Development Department has achieved 62.99% progress, Urban Development 35.50%, and Industrial Development 48.77%. The CM directed the PWD to finalize its survey by September 30 and present an action plan.
He also reviewed the condition of 763 routes, identifying 114 as unsatisfactory, and mandated immediate improvements, highlighting that road conditions during festivals affect the state’s image. Regarding municipal works, Yogi instructed for the timely and transparent allocation of infrastructure funds, warning of repercussions for delays. Corporations with outstanding EESL dues were ordered to settle them without delay. He warned that the rights of mayors may be reassessed in cases of irregularities. The CM also discussed the development of a North-South Corridor, noting that the majority of expressways currently operate in an east-west direction.
He tasked with the preparation of a robust corridor from the Nepal border to southern UP, with NHAI’s assistance on national highways and state-led construction as needed, including Greenfield projects if required. “The campaign is directly linked to people’s convenience and safety,” the CM stated, calling for daily oversight, transparency, and accountability in all initiatives.
