New Delhi, May 26 (). Soon after the Congress accused the BJP of spreading a false story over Sengol, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday questioned why the main opposition party hates Indian tradition and culture and kept the sacred Sengol in the Allahabad museum as a walking stick. Why does she say
Shah took to Twitter to hit back at the Congress and said, “Why does the Congress party hate Indian traditions and culture so much?” A sacred Sengol was given to Pandit Nehru by a holy Shaivite monastery in Tamil Nadu as a symbol of India’s independence but it was kept in a museum as a walking stick.
Shah’s remarks came after Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh’s statement on Friday that the BJP was spreading a false narrative on Sengol.
Is it any wonder that the new Parliament is being sanctified with false narratives, usually from WhatsApp University? Maximum claims, minimum evidence.
Ramesh said that a princely punishment, conceptualized by a religious establishment in the then Madras province and prepared in the city of Madras, was actually delivered to the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in August 1947.
There is no documentary evidence, he said, of Mountbatten, Rajaji and Nehru describing the punishment as symbolic of the transfer of British power in India. All claims to this effect are purely bogus. Totally a brainchild of some people which was spread on WhatsApp, and now handed over to the drum beaters in the media. Two scholars of excellent and impeccable credentials who knew about Rajaji have expressed surprise.
The Congress Rajya Sabha MP said that the punishment was later put on display at the Allahabad Museum.
Whatever is written on the label, whatever Nehru said on December 14, 1947 is a matter of public record, he said.
He said, punishment is now being used by the Prime Minister and his drummers for their political gains in Tamil Nadu. It is typical of this brigade that twists facts to suit their perverse purposes. The real question is why President Draupadi Murmu is not being allowed to inaugurate the new Parliament House.
Along with his tweet, Ramesh has also attached a news report from the Allahabad Museum and Pandit Nehru’s comment.
PM Modi is going to inaugurate the new four-storey new parliament building on 28 May. This issue has become embroiled in a big controversy. Opposition parties argue that the inauguration should be done by President Murmu (head of the country) and not Prime Minister Modi (head of government).
Even BJP national president J.P. Nadda also criticized the opposition parties in a series of tweets saying, what do most of the parties boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building have in common? The answer is simple – they are dynastic political parties, whose monarchical methods are in conflict with the principles of republicanism and democracy enshrined in our constitution.
The parties which are boycotting the opening of Parliament have no commitment to democracy as their only aim is to perpetuate a select group of dynasties, he added. Such an approach is an insult to the makers of our constitution. These parties should introspect!
Nadda said, these dynastic parties, especially the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, are unable to digest the simple fact that the people of India have placed their faith in a person coming from a humble background. The elitist mentality of the dynasties is preventing them from logical thinking.
The BJP leader said, the people of India are seeing how these parties are keeping politics above the country. These parties will again be punished by the public for their partisan politics.
