Will submit report on Bengal govt's failure to protect SCs to President: NCSC

Kolkata, May 4 (). National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) vice-chairman Arun Haldar on Thursday said the murder of a BJP booth president in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district exposed the failure of the state government to ensure the safety of Scheduled Castes, who constitute 22 per cent of the state’s electorate. It is indicative.

He said that a detailed report of the lapses of the state administration in this matter would also be sent to President Draupadi Murmu.

Haldar reached Moyna this morning where the BJP leader was killed. He interacted with the family and villagers of the deceased.

He reacted sharply to the absence of the District Magistrate and the District Superintendent of Police during his visit. Haldar said, as per protocol, the District Magistrate and the District Superintendent of Police have to be present when the NCSC team visits a place. Except West Bengal, this protocol is being followed in all other states of the country.

The inspector in-charge of Moyna police station had to face the wrath of the NCSC vice-chairman. He accused the police of not following normal procedures after the body of BJP booth president Bijoy Krishna Bhunia was recovered.

He told the inspector-in-charge of Moyna police station, after the body was recovered, the police did not inform the victim’s family immediately. You did not make any arrangements to cordon off the place from where the body was recovered. There has been a serious procedural lapse on your part. To whom will I complain? The District Superintendent of Police is also absent.

Meanwhile, according to the state police, the first arrest in this case has been made late on Wednesday night. The arrested person has been identified as Milan Bhowmik, a local gram panchayat member of the Trinamool Congress.

Police sources said Bhowmick was present at the spot when Bhunia was killed.

A single bench of the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday ordered re-autopsy of the BJP leader at the army-run Command Hospital in Kolkata.

His body will be taken to Kolkata from Tamluk Hospital in East Midnapore district.
