Guwahati: Renowned singer from Assam and beloved youth icon Zubeen Garg passed away while scuba diving in Singapore on Friday, according to festival organizers in the Southeast Asian nation. He was 52 years old and is survived by his wife. Garg suffered injuries during the dive and was quickly taken to a hospital, where he died in the intensive care unit while receiving treatment. He had traveled to Singapore to participate in the three-day North East Festival, which was set to commence on the same day. “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Zubeen Garg’s passing. During his scuba diving, he experienced breathing issues and was promptly administered CPR before being transported to Singapore General Hospital.

Despite all efforts to save him, he was declared dead in the ICU around 2:30 PM IST,” stated a message from the North East Festival organizers. In response to the news, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his sorrow, having received the news from Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita. “This is very painful news and a tremendous loss for both the state and the nation,” Sarma commented during a program.
