10 arrested for selling spurious Ayurvedic medicines in Delhi, Lucknow

New Delhi, May 16 (). With the arrest of 10 persons, the Delhi Police has busted a racket involved in selling substandard Ayurvedic medicines of reputed companies through three fake call centers operating in Delhi and Lucknow.

The quack gang Khatra-e-Jaan has duped 6,372 people across the country to the tune of Rs 1.94 crore, the official said. The accused have been identified as Vikas Pal, Sonu Pal, Rahul Singh, Samar, Ugrasen Singh, Jitendra Kumar Singh, Rohit Singh, Satish Singh, Rajesh Singh and Ashutosh Kumar.

The official said that 42 mobile phones, 9 laptops and substandard quality medicines and data of Hakeem Suleman Group were also recovered from the accused.

According to the police, Anayur Marketing Pvt Ltd (UMPL) manager admin Sachin Dahiya had lodged a complaint with the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police, alleging that spurious, artificial, misbranded and adulterated medicines Some are being delivered to their customers by unknown persons who introduce themselves as employees of their company.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) Prashant Gautam said, Dahiya alleged that people call customers from different mobile numbers and lure them by selling medicines at discounted rates, causing loss instead of profit to the customers.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that it was also alleged that the fraudsters also obtained the data of UMPL and since the year 2017, around 6,372 customers/patients were defrauded by them to the tune of Rs 1.94 crore.

During investigation, relevant account details from various courier companies and call detail records of the said numbers were collected and analysed, from which it was found that the accounts were opened from Delhi and Lucknow.

The DCP said that the locations of the said numbers were also found in both the cities. However, the addresses of the said persons were not traceable. Hence, the team conducted extensive analysis and conducted extensive area investigation and finally managed to trace three call centers located at Swaroop Nagar (Delhi), Indira Nagar and Jankipuram (Lucknow).

Consequently, police teams conducted simultaneous raids at all the three places and arrested the accused persons. The DCP said that Rahul is the mastermind of this network.

The DCP said that at these call centers the telecallers used to lure the customers of the complainant company on the pretext of subsidized medicines and sell them substandard ayurvedic medicines.
