Jaipur, June 1 (). Ahead of the assembly elections to be held later this year, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced 100 units of free electricity per month to all electricity consumers, whether domestic or commercial.
He also announced waiver of fixed charges, fuel surcharge and other charges on consumers using electricity up to 200 units.
No consumer will get any bill for the first 100 units of electricity consumed. Gehlot made this announcement late on Wednesday night.
With this announcement, customers with 100 units will pay nothing as electricity bill while those with 200 units will have to pay Rs 503 instead of the current amount of Rs 1610. The subsidy is Rs 832 for 100 units and Rs 1,107 for more than 200 units.
The Chief Minister said in his tweet late night, after talking to the public, the feedback was received that there should be some change in the slab-wise exemption in electricity bills. A major decision has been taken regarding fuel surcharge.
He said, those who consume electricity up to 100 units per month will have zero electricity bill. They will not have to pay any bill. The first 100 units of electricity will be given free of cost to the families consuming more than this. They will not have to pay any electricity charges for the first 100 units, irrespective of the amount billed per month. Keeping in mind especially the middle class, consumers who consume up to 200 units of electricity per month, the first 100 units of electricity will be free, with a fixed charge up to 200 units. Fuel surcharge and all other charges will be waived off and will be paid by the state government.
