Thane, April 29 (). A man and a woman were killed, while at least 22 others are feared trapped after a residential building collapsed in Bhiwandi town of Thane district, the home district of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The officials of the management unit gave this information.
A 10-year-old three-storey building collapsed at around 1 pm in Vardhaman compound of Vaal village on the outskirts of Bhiwandi.
Soon after the accident, district and police officials as well as doctors, fire brigade and Thane Disaster Response Force and other agencies rushed for rescue and relief operations.
Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Kapil Patil, who represents Bhiwandi Lok Sabha constituency, reached the spot along with Collector Ashok Shingare and other officials.
By Saturday evening, rescue teams managed to pull out 11 injured alive from the debris and admitted them to the local government hospital.
Rescuers have so far recovered two bodies – Lakshmidevi R. The bodies of a woman named Mahato (26) and a man named Navnath Sawant (40) have been handed over to the police for post-mortem and other formalities.
At least 22 people are still feared trapped under the debris and efforts are on to rescue them.
