Hubli (Karnataka), May 10 (). Police in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district arrested 23 people for indulging in violence during polling on Wednesday. The violence was reported from Masabinala village in Basavanbagvedi assembly constituency.
According to the Election Commission, a group of villagers stopped the vehicle of the section officer carrying the reserved Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and damaged two control units, two ballot units and three VVPATs.
The villagers also thrashed the sub-divisional officer. On receiving information about the attack, the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police reached the spot.
BJP leader L.A. Ravisubramaniam will face Congress’s U.B. Venkatesh, JD(S)’s Armana Shankar and Aam Aadmi Party’s Satyalakshmi Rao.
