New Delhi, March 31 (). Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Friday that Madhya Pradesh has seen significant growth in terms of air connectivity since 2014.
Jyotiraditya Scindia said that Madhya Pradesh state had air connectivity with only eight cities in the country in 2014, but now it is connected to 26 cities, which is an increase of 300 per cent.
The weekly air traffic movement from the state was 500 aircraft and has increased to 840 in 9 years.
Madhya Pradesh was given 60 routes under the RCS Udan scheme, out of which 33 are already operational and 12 will be operational soon.
Recently the foundation stone of Rewa airport was laid and Rs 50 crore will be spent on its development. A new integrated terminal building is being developed at Gwalior at a cost of Rs 500 crore.
The minister said that a new integrated terminal building is also being developed at Jabalpur at a cost of about Rs 475 crore.
The minister inaugurated a direct flight between Indore and Sharjah on Friday. The new route will enhance connectivity with the Middle East and boost trade, commerce and tourism in Madhya Pradesh. It will work three days a week from March 31, 2023.
Scindia said that after Indore to Dubai, Indore to Sharjah, Indore will have second air connectivity with UAE. He further said that this will not only promote trade and commerce but also connect families living in two different countries.
Speaking on connectivity and infrastructure development, Scindia said that in 2013-14, Indore was connected to only 6 places. The minister further said that in the 9 years of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it has increased to 24 including 2 international destinations, which is an increase of 400 per cent.
Earlier the weekly air traffic movement from Indore was 320 which has now increased to 500 which is an increase of 52 percent.
