Amravati, April 26 (). A total of 56 migrants from Andhra Pradesh are stranded in trouble-torn Sudan and efforts are on to bring them back safely. The officers provided this information.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the officials to take steps to bring back the stranded people.
The Chief Minister asked the officials to coordinate with the Central Government officials and make arrangements for the safe return of the stranded people.
Jagan Mohan Reddy also wanted them to ensure that they were sent to their native places on their return to India.
He asked the authorities to extend all possible help to the stranded Telugu people, as was done during the Ukraine crisis.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Non Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) said 34 of the stranded people were safe.
These migrants have already reached Port Sudan from the Red Sea coast and are expected to proceed to a safer place.
According to APNRTS president Medapati Venkat, the remaining 20 people are 30 kilometers away from the conflict zone and efforts are on to reach them.
APNRTS has set up a special helpline desk to identify Andhra Pradesh natives in Sudan.
More than 400 people have died in fierce fighting between Sudan’s army and paramilitary forces over the past two weeks. More than 3,700 people have been injured in the conflict.
The Government of India has launched Operation Kaveri to evacuate Indians from the crisis-hit country. There are an estimated 4,000 Indians in Sudan.
