New Delhi, June 2 (). The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Madras High Court order that had stayed the Centre’s press release inviting suggestions, either in English or Hindi, on the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, submitted before a bench headed by Justice Dipankar Datta that by Monday the Lok Sabha Secretariat would publish the Tamil version of the Bill. Mehta said he would address the petitioner’s objections in the matter and added that the High Court should not have interfered in the legislative process.
The bench, also comprising Justice Pankaj Mithal, said the order of the High Court would stand stayed. issue notice.
The High Court on May 24, advocate G. Thiran Thirumurugan had ordered an interim stay on the press release and all further proceedings. The petitioner had sought a direction to the Center to upload a Tamil copy of the Bill on its website, which would enable suggestions to be received in local languages including Tamil.
