New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday advocated for simplifying the language of law so that it is easily understood by the local populace and stated that ease of justice must be assured for every citizen, regardless of their social or financial status. Speaking at the inaugural event of a national conference focused on enhancing legal aid delivery mechanisms at the Supreme Court premises, the prime minister remarked that ease of justice is a prerequisite for achieving social justice. Modi urged for the availability of court judgments and legal documents in local languages and praised the Supreme Court for making significant strides in this area.
He emphasized that justice should be accessible to all, noting that the government’s legal aid defense system is instrumental in providing ease of justice to the underprivileged. At the event, which was attended by Chief Justice of India B R Gavai, his successor Surya Kant, and other judges from the Supreme and high courts, Modi expressed that social justice can only be realized if justice reaches every citizen, irrespective of their social or financial circumstances. He mentioned that the government has implemented various measures to enhance the ease of justice and will persist in its efforts to expedite this process. PM Modi asserted that justice must be communicated in a language that the recipient understands.
He highlighted that this principle should be applied when drafting laws, as comprehensible laws lead to better compliance and reduced litigation.
