Guwahati, April 27 (). Advocate and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Bhagwant Singh Sialka has alleged that the crackdown on pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal and other members of Waris Punjab De organization was done for political gains ahead of the upcoming by-elections in Punjab.
A team of SGPC along with Sialka reached Dibrugarh on Thursday along with some family members of prisoners lodged in Central Jail.
Talking to media persons at the airport, Bhagwant Singh Sialka said, “We have come here along with the family members of the detained people.” Family members of eight out of 10 prisoners have come here.
When asked about the current situation in Punjab, Sialka said, the situation there is fine. By-elections are going to be held in Punjab and these things have been done by the government to take political advantage. Nothing else.
This is the second time that the SGPC team has brought the family members of Waris Punjab De Sanghatana members lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail here.
Sialka said he would meet the prisoners and return to Punjab on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, the SGPC is also preparing to challenge in the High Court the arrest of Amritpal Singh and his associates under the National Security Act (NSA).
At present, his case is with the board, Sialka said. Let’s see what happens there and then we will challenge in the High Court.
