Kochi, May 16 (). After prominent stake holders of the Malayalam film industry expressed their deep concern over the increasing use of drugs in the industry, the Kerala Police has decided to take firm action against those breaking the law.
Kochi is the headquarters of the Malayalam film industry. Kochi City Police Commissioner K. Sethuraman said: We know who are the people in the industry who are in this and the problem is that we cannot go and detain them. This can be done when they use it or are in possession of it. Generally, these are supplied to him by his close associates. If not today then tomorrow we will bring those who do this to book.
He further added that all those who matter in the industry are with him to root out this menace.
Sethuraman said, the current heavyweights in the industry did not reach this level by using drugs. We will clean the industry and shadow police are doing their work and they are on the shooting location.
Last month, some top Malayalam film bodies openly admitted that the use of drugs in the industry is on the rise and they will approach the state government for a proper probe.
Minister of State for Culture and Films Saji Cherian reacted immediately saying that the government would look into the issues seriously and hold a conference inviting all stakeholders of the film industry to discuss the menace.
