If you own the new iPhone 17, you may have been frustrated by the previous lack of support for Adobe’s Project Indigo photography tools. Fortunately, Adobe has found a workaround that allows for partial functionality on the iPhone 17. According to The Verge, the Project Indigo app now supports the rear cameras of the iPhone 17. The initial problem that delayed the app’s release was related to the phone’s redesigned front-facing camera sensors, which are square-shaped. This incompatibility with the app’s features led to delays. While Adobe is still working on a solution for the front camera issues, they have opted to disable all mobile photography features using the front sensors and focus on the rear sensors instead.
Launched in June, Project Indigo promises high-quality photos for iPhone users and provides detailed manual control over settings such as focus, exposure, ISO, and shutter speed. The app utilizes advanced computational photography techniques to deliver DSLR-quality images and is favored by professional photographers. Currently, the SLR-style app is compatible with all iPhone 12 Pro models and newer, but compatibility concerns arose with the iPhone 17’s release. An Adobe spokesperson stated, “We’re actively working on iPhone 17 support but ran into some issues, specifically with the front camera. We’ve reported them to Apple, and they’ve implemented a fix that will be available in iOS 26.1. Until then, we’ve had to disable the front camera in Indigo temporarily.”
