AM Green secures ₹54,000 crore for Kakinada aluminium project

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh Government and AM Green Group signed memoranda of understanding for two significant projects during the 30th edition of the CII Partnership Summit. These include a green aluminium complex in Kakinada with a capacity of one million tonnes per annum, backed by an investment of ₹44,000 crore, and multiple 2G biorefineries with a sustainable aviation fuel plant producing 180 KTPA across North Andhra, involving an investment of ₹10,000 crore. AM Green Group has been instrumental in providing various decarbonisation solutions for both global and Indian markets by integrating innovative technologies with strong business models to generate new products and solutions.

The group has developed its initial pumped hydro storage assets in Kurnool and is progressing toward establishing its 100 GWh Intelligent Energy Cloud Platform. Furthermore, AM Green is working on constructing one of the world’s largest RFNBO compliant green ammonia complexes in Kakinada, with a capacity of one million tonnes per annum. This initiative has positioned AM Green’s green hydrogen and ammonia value chain to establish India as a net clean energy exporter on the global stage. In addition to green energy and hydrogen, AM Green Group plans to initiate large-scale green metal production in Andhra Pradesh.

They are collaborating with internationally recognized technology and production companies to develop the green aluminium complex in Kakinada, which will be the first of its kind at this scale powered by 2 GW of renewable energy mixed generation. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu remarked that AM Green will create multiple biorefineries producing 2G ethanol and other valuable green hydrocarbons across the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Anakapalli in Andhra Pradesh. The produced ethanol will be utilized to manufacture 2G sustainable aviation fuel, which is projected to be 75 percent less carbon intensive compared to traditional jet fuel. This initiative will facilitate an integrated feedstock supply for biofuels production, establishing North Andhra Pradesh as a ‘global to flight’ destination.

Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Pawan Kalyan noted that Andhra Pradesh has a rich legacy of developing green energy projects, starting with wind and solar initiatives in the early 2000s.
