Imphal, April 25 (). Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday inspected the ongoing construction work of the new campus of National Sports University in Imphal and directed the construction company to expedite the process, an official said.
Thakur told Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports Minister K.K. Govind Das and other high-ranking officials of the Central and State Government visited the construction site in Imphal West district. The minister also held a review meeting there.
Woke up very early today for a site visit to India’s only National Sports University which is under construction in Imphal, Manipur, Thakur later wrote on Twitter. The contribution of the North Eastern region to our sporting history is significant and it is fitting that such a university should be located in this part of the country. It is the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards the development of the Northeast and our youth that through such initiatives our budding athletes are given a new direction to go out and conquer the world. I reiterate that the talent of our Indian youth will be fully supported at all levels.
National Sports University is India’s first full-fledged sports university of international standard. For the last five years, classes and other activities are being conducted from a temporary center located at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the university’s 325-acre campus in Imphal West district on March 16, 2018. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 900 crore.
