Auction of contracts in Gurugram, 43 crore bids for contracts near Delhi border

Gurugram, June 3 (). Under the new excise policy of 2023-24 implemented from June 1, the auction of liquor shops in Gurugram has created a record in terms of revenue.

According to officials, the city has seen an increase of over 50 per cent in the collection of license fee from liquor shops, which is the highest in recent years.

The highest bid was made for a liquor shop on MG Road near the Delhi border. The auction attracted bids of Rs 43 crore against the reserve price of Rs 22 crore. This contract was sold at the highest price in the entire Gurugram district.

Similarly, a liquor shop near Bristol Chowk was auctioned for Rs 36 crore against the reserve price of Rs 18 crore.

Traders from Gurugram, Delhi, Noida and other parts of the country also participated in the auction. He pointed out that there was a huge demand for contracts close to the Delhi border.

Officials said, the entire Gurugram district has been divided into 162 excise zones in 2023-24. The number of excise areas in 2022-23 was 82. Under the new excise policy, the number of liquor shops in a zone has been reduced from four to two.

Out of 162 zones, auction has so far been completed in 148 zones, with a total license fee of Rs 1,564.30 crore. This figure will increase further as 14 zones are yet to be auctioned. Last year, a total of Rs 1,079.10 crore was collected from the license fee of liquor shops.

Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (East) Ravinder Singh had 79 zones under his jurisdiction, of which 75 have been auctioned for Rs 929.66 crore.

Ravinder Singh said the revenue from license fee from liquor shops in the east zone has increased from Rs 646.70 crore to Rs 929.66 crore. We have registered a growth of 43.75 percent.

Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (West) Amit Bhatia said that there are 83 zones under his jurisdiction, out of which 73 zones have been auctioned for Rs 634.64 crore.

Revenue from license fee in the west has increased to Rs 634.64 crore from last year’s Rs 509 crore, Bhatia said. We have registered a growth of 24.21 percent.

Liquor shops near Hyatt Hotel were auctioned for Rs 26.43 crore against the reserve price of Rs 12.50 crore. Similarly, a liquor shop in Udyog Vihar was auctioned for Rs 25.80 crore against the reserve price of Rs 17.80 crore.

795.77 crore was collected in 2020-21, 789.23 crore in 2021-22, 1,079.10 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 1564.30 crore in 2023-24 (so far) from the license fee of liquor shops.
