Bihar Teacher Transfers Set to Commence by Late November for 1,290 Staff

Patna: The Patna district education office has resumed the long-awaited transfer process for schoolteachers after the conclusion of the model code of conduct, preparing to relocate 1,290 staff members to new positions throughout the district by late November. District education officer Saket Ranjan stated that the transfer initiative, which was paused in October due to election restrictions, will commence soon. Assignments to schools will be made based on applications received, prioritizing teachers with serious health issues such as cancer, kidney disease, heart and liver problems, as well as those with disabilities, in accordance with existing guidelines. The prepared list includes 220 teachers fitting these criteria, who will be given precedence when the new postings are finalized.

In a related update, Patna University has extended the contracts of 20 guest assistant professors for an additional 11 months across various departments, including three in sociology, five in economics, seven in physics, and five in geography. These extensions come after months of protests. In July, the Patna University Guest Faculty Forum held an indefinite sit-in in front of the former vice-chancellor Ajay Kumar Singh, advocating for the continuation of services for 32 guest assistant professors who had previously been left out. The forum accused the university administration of intentionally delaying renewals. They have now expressed gratitude to the governor and university officials for resolving the issue, feeling relieved that their long-standing demands have finally been addressed.

The renewed faculty list features names such as Sandhya Kumari, Aslama Parveen, Madhavi, and others.
