Bhubaneswar: Following the suspension of its outspoken leader Shreemayee Mishra for alleged anti-party conduct, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) characterized her as a “habitual liar.” During a press conference at Sankha Bhavan, Snehangini Chhuria, president of the Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), and party spokesperson Lenin Mohanty accused Shreemayee of misleading the public with false statements. Chhuria stated, “The BJD is among the most successful regional political parties in India. Under former chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s leadership, the party has instigated transformation across various sectors. Over one crore individuals have joined, and the party is recognized for its discipline.” She emphasized that appropriate actions are taken when discipline is compromised.
Three BJD members, including Shreemayee, faced suspension on charges of anti-party activities on Tuesday. Chhuria remarked, “Shreemayee Mishra asserted that she has not been part of the party for the last year, which is a blatant falsehood. She has consistently participated in party events, given speeches, and commended the leadership. She has also been entrusted with various responsibilities at different times. She has never claimed that she was outside the party until after her suspension, which underscores her habitual dishonesty.” Chhuria further claimed that Shreemayee has been playing the “victim card” to deceive the public. In a social media post on Tuesday, Shreemayee stated, “I have never compromised on my self-esteem and self-pride, nor will I in the future.
Since I have not renewed my party membership for the past year, my suspension will give people something to laugh about.”
