Valsad (Gujarat), May 9 (). A leader of the ruling BJP in Gujarat’s Valsad district was shot dead on Monday by unidentified assailants sitting in his car.
The incident took place at 7 am when BJP vice-president Shailesh Patel was waiting for his wife outside a temple in Valsad’s Vapi taluka when the assailants came on a motorcycle, fired three shots at him and fled.
Emergency services took Patel to Haria Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Doctors said that he died on the spot due to the injuries.
Initial reports point to an old rivalry as a possible motive for the murder. Officials are actively investigating the matter. More details are expected to emerge as the investigation unfolds.
Patel was a resident of Kocharwa village of Vapi. Gujarat BJP chief C.R. Patil expressed grief over the incident and urged the state government to bring the culprits to justice.
